- …… This auction is for an antique Bronze Medallion by Whitehead & Hoag. Designed by Julio Kilenyi, one side depicts Native Americans on the edge of a cliff communicating through smoke signals from across a canal with a tugboat passing through. This side reads, “From the first signal fires to all America Cables - Commemorating fifty years of service to the Americas - 1878 - May 6, 1928.” The other side depicts a nude guardian angel flying over the ocean, holding the undersea telegraph cables in one hand and lighting bolts in her other hand. This side reads “All America Cables.” Commemorating 50 years of service to the Americas for the transatlantic Telegraph system, this 3 ¼” diameter Medal is signed “Whitehead & Hoag” on the edge, and below the angel’s foot is the “Kilenyi” mark.
