…… This auction is for four, properly framed, 19th-century, hand-colored Bookplate Engravings depicting various Whale species. These engravings are based on drawings by the French zoologist and paleontologist Georges-Frédéric Cuvier (1773–1838). They were hand-colored and published in 1837 by William Home Lizars (1788-1859) in “Naturalist’s Library: Mammalia, Whales” written by Sir William Jardine. … Measuring by sight, these four small Whaling Bookplate Engravings measure 3 ½” by 8”, and they come properly mounted under glass in matching 8 ½” by 10 ½” silver-gilt frames. There is some very light edge toning, however, these 19th-century engravings have no problems or any restorationsy.
