In 19 chapters they address such topics as first and second quantization, mean-field theory, time dependence in quantum theory, linear response theory, Green's functions, the equation of motion theory, transport in mesoscopic and interacting mesoscopic systems, Feynman diagrams in external potentials and pair interactions, electron gases in various conformations, Fermi liquid theory and Luttinger liquids, impurities, and superconductivity. They also offer an appendix on Fourier transformations. They have found their methods of instruction have benefited both students in experimental physics, who gained familiarity with the theoretical concepts they need for research papers, and theory students, who gained a solid background for further study.
