LOS LECUONA CUBAN BOYS
“LOS LECUONA CUBAN BOYS”
WOW!!! WOW!!! WOW!!! MEGARARE and hard-to-find original MONO very first PROMOTIONAL press released in Chile in 1965 by Discos Philips (Philips Records), licensed from the Deutsche Grammophon Ges., Germany, with Polydor Records labels, catalog number 84041, with matrix numbers 84041 A S 3 (P) 1965 M5 V in Side 1 and 84041 B S 3 (P) 1965 M5 V in Side 2. It’s very interesting that in Chile the Polydor catalog number is 84041 and the original German Polydor catalog number is 184041, maybe that extra “1” could mean in Germany this record was released with Stereo sound. Yes, Sirs, ANOTHER FIND from Chile!!!
“LOS LECUONA CUBAN BOYS” was originally released in 1965 in Germany and late the same year we got this great debut album released in Chile, maybe for some kind of relationship between Chilean Philips Records and German Polydor, and like in most of the cases of that period, we got it with an UNIQUE COVER, made of a single piece of thin cardboard folded in the middle, so 3 sides are open like a gatefold cover and kept held for a plastic bag. In Chile the front cover keeps the original artwork with the album title “Lecuona Cuban Boys”, the Polydor Records logo and catalog number at top right corner. Back cover is totally different, the album title is “LOS LECUONA CUBAN BOYS” (with extra “Los”, “The” in English), a long review about the band and its career, and tracklist written in Spanish, with credits for songwriters of each song and lead singers. In labels the album title is also written “Los Lecuona Cuban Boys”, with tracklist written in Spanish too, with full credits for songwriters and lead singers of each song. Yes Sirs, ANOTHER GREAT FIND from Chile, a great album with and UNIQUE COVER!!! WOW!!!
The cover was already described and it’s in strong VG- or VG condition both sides, clean and clear, no ring marks, with moderate wear, more evident in the mouth edge and corners, complete but with some little rips in the mouth edge and marks of humidity clearly seen in back cover, with age browning and all songs marked with blue pencil. The record is in superb NM- or NM condition both sides, still glossy and clean like the first day, with only minimal light scuffs and hairlines, hard to see, which don’t affect sound at all. Labels are in almost immaculate NM or NM+ condition the Side 1, absolutely perfect, with not even spindle hole wear, and in EX or EX+ condition the Side 2, so perfect like the label in Side 1, but with a paper with the number “7.204” glued and the PROMOTIONAL STICKER perfect too. The sound is the best part, it’s in absolute NM- or NM condition both sides, loud, clear and clean, no background noise at all (surface noise is normal in records from Chile), only some minimal soft and hard to hear crackles here and there which don’t cause any distraction. Overall, a 60 years old record which has the evidence to have been played with care, still with a very nice glossy look, with not the perfect cover it would deserve but with a superb sound quality which will delight anyone from the beginning to the end. And keep in mind the UNIQUE COVER!!! And don’t forget this is a PROMOTIONAL MONO PRESS!!! Yes Sirs, ANOTHER FIND from Chile!!! WOW!!! _________________________________________________________
We don’t use the generic “VG” most of South American sellers use to hide poor quality conditions or “NM” or “Mint” for records which aren’t even clean and sound less than a normal “VG” in professional standards. We use the Record Collector’s Grading System with a little modification: we don’t use MINT grade but for Sealed records and we can use a + or – to show a most professional accurate description.
MINT (M): I only use this grade for Sealed records.
NEAR MINT (NM): The record itself is in like new
condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality (only some
very very very light hairlines caused for the record rubbing the sleeve). The
cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in
like perfect condition.
EXCELLENT (EX): The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is
very little lessening in sound quality, maybe some surface marks which doesn’t
affect play. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and/or creasing.
VERY GOOD (VG): The record has obviously been played many times, but displays
no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and
the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items,
without any major defects, is acceptable.
GOOD (G): The record has been played so much that the sound quality has
noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The
cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits,
discoloration, etc.
FAIR (F): The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly
and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump.
The cover and contents will be torn, stained and/or defaced.
POOR (P): The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface
noise, etc. The cover and contents will be badly damaged or partly missing.
BAD (B): The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection-filler.

FEEDBACK
We don’t have anything to hide and we know the buyers expect to receive feedback after to pay for the items they win. Most of sellers say to give feedback when buyers leave feedback first. But we know that’s not fair for buyers. So, we leave feedback immediately after to receive the payment, because we understand that’s the part that buyers must receive feedback for. And we expect to receive positive feedback from buyers who receive the records immediately after they have got the records.
IMPORTANT TO READ
IMPORTANT UPDATE (September 2024)
Because the
UK’s tax authority, Her Majesty’s Revenue & Customs (HMRC), requires eBay collect
VAT information from sellers with UK customers, I’ve been informed that I need
to have a “valid UK VAT number on file” to sell to UK customers. As I live in
Chile and all my items are shipped from Chile, I don’t have an “UK VAT number”,
so I’m sorry to inform that I’M FORCED TO EXCLUDE
THE UK FROM MY WORLDWIDE SHIPPING POLICY. If you live in the UK and
you’d like to bid/buy some of my records, please contact me, I’m sure we could
find some solution.
If you have some doubt or question, feel free to contact us, we will be glad to answer all that you want to know about this item.
