Family Matters is a collection of stories and poems inspired by the early life of the author, Jeanne Kelly.A pastor's daughter, she moved frequently during childhood and youth, but she also learned about her Mississippi heritage. She has vivid memories of time spent on the farm owned by her paternal grandparents as well as a portrait of her maternal grandmother and a couple of eccentric aunts. Kelly writes about coming of age in the late 1950's and early 1960's when she lived in Tennessee, Colorado, California, Mississippi, and Louisiana. Other chapters relate to meeting the man she married, his family, and her first teaching experiences (including integration of public schools in Mississippi).
