CATERINA VALENTE
“LO MEJOR DE CATERINA VALENTE”
(The Best Of Caterina Valente)
WOW!!! WOW!!! WOW!!! MEGARARE and HARD-TO-FIND original PROMOTIONAL Stereo very first press released in Chile in 1967 by Polydor Records, made and distributed by Discos Philips (Philips Records), licensed from the Deutsche Grammophon Ges., Germany, catalog number 184 047, with matrix numbers 184047 A 8 3 (P) 1958 A6 ◊K in Side 1 and 184047 B 8 3 (P) 1958 A6 ◊K in Side 2, with traditional orange/black Polydor Records labels and white “Polydor” at top. Yes, Sirs, WHAT A FIND!!! Another rare Chilean press of a great album!!!
“THE BEST OF CATERINA VALENTE”, was originally released in 1958 as informed in the deadwax even though I’ve not found any information about that issue, but in 1967 the record was (re) released in Germany and the same year we could see this great compilation album by Caterina Valente released here in Chile and like in most of the cases of that period, we got it with an UNIQUE COVER, made of a single piece of thin cardboard folded in the middle, so 3 sides are open, faking a gatefold cover, and kept held for an outer plastic bag. Front cover keeps strictly the original German artwork with the album title “The Best Of Caterina Valente” written in English only but the words “The Best Of” yellow, not orange like in original issue. Back cover is totally different, the album title is written in Spanish only and the tracklist is written in Spanish only (the only exception is the first track, with the subtitle in English, “I Love Paris”), with full credits for songwriters and language of each song, and additional credits to all the orchestras involved in these songs:
Side 1
1 Ganz Paris Träumt Von Der Liebe (I Love Paris) – Sung In German
2 The Breeze And I (Andalucia) – Sung In English
3 Tipitipitipso – Sung In German
4 Granada – Sung In Spanish
5 Yes, My Darling Daughter – Sung In English
6 Siboney – Sung In English
7 Das Hab' Ich Gleich Gewußt – Sung In German
Side 2
1 Malagueña – Sung In Spanish
2 Wenn Es Nacht Wird In Paris – Sung In German
3 Be Mine Tonight – Sung In English
4 Steig' In Das Traumboot Der Liebe – Sung In German
5 All My Love – Sung In English
6 Wo Meine Sonne Scheint (Island In The Sun) – Sung In German
7 Une Nuit À Rio Grande – Sung In French
In labels the album title and tracklist are also written in Spanish only, with full credits for songwriters, language of each song and all the orchestras already informed in back cover, with additional information about licenses. In Side 1 it’s the promo sticker “INVENDIBLE – DISCO PROMOCIONAL” (Not For Sale – Promotional Record) and you can aslo notice that here in Chile Polydor Records used the same original German catalog number. So, here you have the chance to get and own another MEGARARE PRESS of a classic album, with UNIQUE COVER and UNIQUE BACK COVER DESIGN, with Caterina Valente singing her biggest hits in German, English, French and Spanish, ANOTHER GREAT FIND a record almost never seen and WITH PROMOTIONAL STICKER, a record for all lovers, fans and collectors of Caterina Valente and/or Schlager music!!! WOW!!!
The cover was already described and it’s in nice VG or even VG+ condition, clean and clear, with some wear in all edges, more evident in corners, with some creases, with evident age browning in back cover, faint ring marks and little rips, a sticker in front cover with the archive number of the radio station which originally owned this record and residues of tape at top right corner, and the name of the radio station written in back cover. The record is in great EX- or even EX condition both sides, glossy and clean, with some scuffs and light hairlines, more evident in Side 2, which of course don’t affect play at all. Labels on both sides are in EX or EX+ condition, with only minimal spindle hole wear and writings of the radio station which originally owned the record. The sound is in strong EX- or even EX condition both sides, loud, clear and clean, virtually no background noise (surface noise is normal in records from Chile), with only some occasional soft crackles and very light clicks here and there, which of course don’t cause any distraction from the superb sound quality this record keeps after about 58 years, which shouldn’t disappoint anyone and should satisfy any serious collector who knows the real level of rarity of this Chilean press!!! Overall, a great record with amazing look, almost immaculate labels and great sound quality from the beginning to the end!!! And the most important, this record has an UNIQUE COVER, UNIQUE BACK COVER DESIGN and it’s PROMOTIONAL!!! What a find!!! Click on the pictures to enlarge and see the labels and cover in detail. WOW!!!
Bid with confidence and don’t wait until the last second because you could lose the chance to get a real collectable record from Chile (South America) in superb condition like this copy is. You know South American records aren’t easy to get in good conditions, so HAPPY BIDDING and don’t let this record to go away… you could never see a so good copy of this record again… if you are lucky enough to see even another copy again…
Thanks for watching and bidding, good luck and best regards from Chile
_________________________________________________________
We don’t use the generic “VG” most of South American sellers use to hide poor quality conditions or “NM” or “Mint” for records which aren’t even clean and sound less than a normal “VG” in professional standards. We use the Record Collector’s Grading System with a little modification: we don’t use MINT grade but for Sealed records and we can use a + or – to show a most professional accurate description.
MINT (M): I only use this grade for Sealed records.
NEAR MINT (NM): The record itself is in like new
condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality (only some
very very very light hairlines caused for the record rubbing the sleeve). The
cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in
like perfect condition.
EXCELLENT (EX): The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is
very little lessening in sound quality, maybe some surface marks which doesn’t
affect play. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and/or creasing.
VERY GOOD (VG): The record has obviously been played many times, but displays
no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and
the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items,
without any major defects, is acceptable.
GOOD (G): The record has been played so much that the sound quality has
noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The
cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits,
discoloration, etc.
FAIR (F): The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly
and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump.
The cover and contents will be torn, stained and/or defaced.
POOR (P): The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface
noise, etc. The cover and contents will be badly damaged or partly missing.
BAD (B): The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection-filler.

FEEDBACK
We don’t have anything to hide and we know the buyers expect to receive feedback after to pay for the items they win. Most of sellers say to give feedback when buyers leave feedback first. But we know that’s not fair for buyers. So, we leave feedback immediately after to receive the payment, because we understand that’s the part that buyers must receive feedback for. And we expect to receive positive feedback from buyers who receive the records immediately after they have got the records.
IMPORTANT TO READ
IMPORTANT UPDATE (September 2024)
Because the
UK’s tax authority, Her Majesty’s Revenue & Customs (HMRC), requires eBay
collect VAT information from sellers with UK customers, I’ve been informed that
I need to have a “valid UK VAT number on file” to sell to UK customers. As I
live in Chile and all my items are shipped from Chile, I don’t have an “UK VAT
number”, so I’m sorry to inform that I’M FORCED TO
EXCLUDE THE UK FROM MY WORLDWIDE SHIPPING POLICY. If you live in the
UK and you’d like to bid/buy some of my records, please contact me, I’m sure we
could find some solution.
If you have some doubt or question, feel free to contact us, we will be glad to answer all that you want to know about this item.
