The Adafruit PiRTC is a battery-powered real-time clock for the Raspberry Pi. It enables the time to be provided when the Raspberry Pi has been disconnected from the power supply - ideal for data logging applications, for creating your own clocks, timers or alarms. The PCF8523 chipset is ideal for use with Raspberry Pi and is natively supported by the kernel. The board is delivered fully assembled and tested and can be plugged directly onto the GPIO bar of the Raspberry Pi. It doesn't need to be soldered.
